Welcome to Open Mic Monday for the soul at Cisneros Cafe. This is our weekly linkup. If you are not a blogger, I welcome your comments and responses here or on Facebook.
Do you yearn for rest? Are you missing out on soul moments because you can’t stand still?
For years, I lived in fast forward mode. All the time. It was a dangerous way to live. It wasn’t clear just how precarious until I came to a standstill with utter exhaustion. While at rest, I took note of the many soul moments I missed because I could not sit still.
I missed out on moments of reflection while sitting in a bible study because I was already thinking about the next bible study. I was never really present enough. Often, I was fired up about the message, but so ready for the next.
I missed out on the development and nourishment of lasting relationships. My “I don’t have time” mentality was a sticker I wore well. I couldn’t seem to catch up with anything. It took it’s toll on me through my eating habits, sleeping habits, and overall mood.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
My word for 2016 is whitespace because I know less time on my calendar means more time with God, more time with those who matter and more time doing soul work. I don’t want to miss another soul moment because of the rush.
God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Psalm 46:5
While reading Hebrews Chapter 4, I was jolted upright to know I was breaking covenant with Jesus by not observing a time of rest. To not rest was in direct defiance to God. Wow! Did you just gulp as hard as I did?
Today, find time to rest. Find time to be faithful and loyal in hearing God’s voice. Today.
God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted:
“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7
Today’s theme is: Rest
