#FiveMinuteFriday: Should (a poem)

community Faith Poetry social justice Strength

//Solo le pido a Dios
that I never be
indifferent to injustice.

That at daybreak
when my brown feet touch
the earth I remember
why it is God put me here

For voice, hope, strength
every poet weighed with
the power of the truth –
our very existence the resistance

Should I remain silent?

Be still and know
walk humbly
and pulling injustice
feels like plucking and depluming
a feathered bird to make ready
a feast – for we the people

Should I negate and placate
the stirring of earth inside
onto Moses a tablet
God’s first poem to the world
thou shall not…

engraved in bone, covered in flesh
made ready for humanity
releasing us from bondage

How then should I proceed?//
