#FiveMinuteFriday: Friend (a poem)

Poetry Writing

I’m joining #FiveMinuteFriday at Kate Motaung’s place. The word prompt is FRIEND.  Below is five minutes of free flow writing. The forward slashes (//) indicate where the timer started and ended. Your turn! Join us at Kate’s place.

//Smoothed out paper cranes
scattered around the coffee table
like the aftermath of a misshapen idea.

This is how you find me
open hands, gathering
vestiges of paper-thin soul
visible deep creases
I used to be a paper crane.

You hold me, mold me, refold me
piece together a new art form
crumble me, shoot a hoop with me
miss the wastebasket, run to me
smooth me out –

Edward Scissorhands me back to life
like snowflakes, papel picado – morado
enredado

you bring me stories
print them on my skin
and we always find a way to begin again.//
