Children’s Book Review: A Very Thankful Prayer by Bonnie Rickner Jensen, Illustrated by Natalia Moore

Book Review Children Faith Family Friendships Prayer Reading

A Very Thankful Prayer was written by Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Natalia Moore. It was published by Tommy Nelson. I selected this book for review and I was provided a complimentary copy from BookLook Bloggers for my honest review.

This hardcover, thick-paged children’s book is about gratitude. Although the title indicates it is prayer, it is a beautiful poem. It is perfect for reading out loud. Children learn to give thanks for friendship, farms, family, and much more. It is appropriate for children ages newborn to 4 years old. I read it to my 8-month old daughter. It engaged her attention the entire time.

The message is clear that it is a faith-filled children’s book on giving thanks. I appreciated the focused language on giving thanks to God.

My favorite page reads: “I’m thankful for the farmer’s fields,/Where good things start from seed./The sunbeams and the raindrops help/To grow the food we need.”

The illustrations are whimsical and earthy as the book is set in the fall. I loved the diversity of animals used to capture the reader’s attention. The spiritual message wasn’t overwhelming, which I greatly appreciated. I would absolutely recommend this beautiful book to others. I’m elated to add it to my daughter’s bookshelf.
