She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night. Proverbs 31:17-18
I finally see myself in the verses of the Proverbs 31 woman.
Being home on unpaid maternity leave strains our household finances, but it is not a time I would give up if it means time with my newborn and physical healing.
We have to find a way to make it work.
With that mindset, I set upon a journey to use my hands and creativity to bring income into our household. This will allow us to cover our health insurance, car payment, formula, groceries, and other bills.
Thus began the knitting.
I knit a pair of fingerless mittens because I wanted a pair for myself. God put me in a season of prosperity when I felt there would be no way for me to stay home with our newborn for more than 6 weeks.
Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber. Proverbs 31:19
When I announced on Facebook I would knit for income, my friends and family quickly placed their orders. In a few hours, I was overwhelmed with God’s provision.
God’s call on my life is to write, and at the very core of that he calls me to live creatively.
If I exercise those gifts for his glory and honor, his blessings overwhelm me. First, I give him all the glory. Then, I thank each person who is and has been a grand blessing to my household.
She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Proverbs 31:27
I believe the wife of noble character, in Proverbs, is one woman in many seasons of her life. Sometimes, she doesn’t get through them all.
Before this month, I thought I could never live up to what a Proverbs 31 woman is. A wife of noble character is a force to be reckoned with. How could I ever be her? Friend, I’m not about to make my own bedspreads and blah! to purple gowns. I’m just sayin’.
Instead of thinking I fall short I must recognize I am and have been different versions of her throughout my life.
In this season, I am twisting fiber as my lamp burns late into the night. How about you?
…Let her deeds publicly declare her praise. Proverbs 31:31
